Transformation Through Listening and Loving
If I had to boil down my accumulated wisdom from all of my experiences into 2 values or practices that would be most helpful for a person desiring transformation…
Those 2 things would be these…
Listening and loving.
Those 2 values and practices will take your entire life to grow into. You won’t ever master them, even if you become really good at them. And that’s okay. It’s growing, changing, and transforming that really matters, anyway.
The sad reality is that most people won’t do this work. It requires sacrifice. It’s hard.
But if you open yourself up to these values and practices, your life will change and you will find meaning beyond what you can imagine.
A commitment to listening to others forces you to slow down, to focus on others, and to really hear who they really are and what they are truly saying.
A commitment to listening to The Other enables you to tap into spiritual realities and purpose that you miss out on when you are too busy to even think.
A commitment to listening to self helps you attune to who you are, most deeply, and to be present to and with that truth.
A commitment to loving others creates for you a posture of serving (and healing) the world. When you give of yourself, you help to restore someone else.
A commitment to loving The Other helps you find your true path and walk on it.
A commitment to loving self means that you are living a balanced, healthy, and spiritual life. Loving yourself is never selfish.
This is a short reflection, and kind of like a personal manifesto. I am working these things out in my own life and practice. And I am committed to growing into them.
If you’d like to talk about these things, and about how doing deep inner work will transform you into a new person, reach out to me and let’s schedule a conversation.
