Many people dread Monday because Monday represents something they don’t like–ending their weekend and going back to work for another week.
I always dreaded Wednesday. I enjoyed the freshness of Monday and the ability to start fresh each week, but by the middle of the week I was pretty tired and worn out and looking ahead to the end.
It was a slog to get through and I had to push myself to tackle interesting projects so that I would stay motivated to finish the week strong.
Wednesday is called the "hump day" for a reason. It can be a slog to get over the hump.
When Wednesday begins, you still have more than half the week to go. When Wednesday is done, more than half the week is done as well!
But the day can be daunting to stare down.
Here are 3 things you can do to help you approach Wednesdays in a fresh way, with lots of energy, and set yourself up for having an excellent second half of the week.
Read a few pages from an inspirational book on your lunch break or at some other point in the day.
Sometimes, getting a new perspective is helpful. In the middle of the week, we can feel overburdened, stressed out, and struggle to see the finish line.
Taking 10-15 minutes to read a book that inspires you--whether it's a religious book, a novel, or any kind of a helpful day book--can remind you of what’s important to you. This activity can help you refresh yourself to finish the day strong and "get over the hump."
Schedule an impromptu lunch with an important friend for Thursday or Friday.
As the week wears on and you begin to feel caught up in the slog of it, what can happen is you begin to feel like the week is a lost cause. You'll get after it again next week.
Don't do this! Instead, reach out to someone important in your network and schedule lunch with them. This will energize you while also refocusing you on the work you need to be about.
Create a list of "must do's" that you will tackle the rest of the week that will set you up for a great next week.
There is always work that can be done–whether it’s house work, work-work, or something that needs done around the house. Don't let the second half of the week slip away because you are tired and worn out in the middle of the week.
Before today is finished, write out 3-5 things that you "must" do in order to finish the week strong. This will serve as your to-do list for the next two days. Do these, and then celebrate your success on the weekend.
Try these three things today and see how it helps energize you to build success on "hump day" and for the rest of the week.
